Bookkeeping


Bookkeeping is a QQI level 5 course that is designed to provide participants with an introduction to manual bookkeeping terms and principles. This course also provides the information and skills necessary to operate a computerised accounts system using an integrated accounts package. Participants who successfully complete it will be able to do accounts to trial balance and will be versed in TAS books which is one of the most up to date accounts packages available.

Our tutor Jenny Dunne has extensive experience tutoring both payroll and bookkeeping. She is qualified in TAS, Thesaurus and Sage accounting softwares. She is also a taxation and accounting advisor to new businesses and start ups.

Course content

This course is delivered over two headings:

Manual Bookkeeping

  • Complete original books of entry (day books) manually
  • Post the original entries to the correct ledger accounts
  • Balance accounts and produce trial balance reports
  • Produce accounts for VAT, and submit VAT returns
  • Computerised Bookkeeping
  • Set up company accounts using TAS software system
  • Set up customer and supplier accounts
  • Enter invoices and post them
  • Produce reports for trial balance to aged debtor and creditor reports
  • Prepare VAT reconciliations and submit VAT returns
  • Print out various reports and analyses
